Arraya has a soul: you can see it, feel it, live it!
Built in the 16th century on the village square of Sare, Arraya is an old Compostela relay transformed into a charming hotel since 1951.
It has been run by the Fagoaga family for 3 generations.
Made up of three very old houses grouped around a garden that escapes the eye, Arraya is located in the centre of Sare, one of the most beautiful villages in the Basque Country.
As soon as you enter the house, you will find beautiful living rooms and a delightful dining room with a charm that owes much to the patina of the furniture and the brightness of the flowers in the garden.
In the Basque Country, a house cannot be appropriated... it is passed on from one generation to the next and it is in this spirit that the Fagoaga family welcomes you to their home, sharing with you their love for their house.
The adventure of Arraya begins with the story of a brother and sister, Paul and Louise. With the help of their parents, they transform their modest house into a tea room. The year was 1951. A few years later, in 1962, the restaurant was extended to the neighbouring house, followed by 6 beautiful rooms, each with its own bathroom: very avant-garde for the time!
Arraya was a huge success from the start. It must be said that Paul Fagoaga and his brother Jean, renowned pelotaris, were very well known at the time!
In 1982, the Arraya shop opened and it was Paul's cousin Maité who took over the reins, and every year a new stone was added to the building: the Fagoaga family's love for this house never waned and was passed on to the next generation quite naturally.
Since 1995, Jean-Baptiste and Sébastien Fagoaga, Paul's sons, have taken up the torch under the watchful eye of the previous generation of course! Accompanied by their wives, Laurence and Lorentxa. Arraya continues to move forward while gradually entering the 21st century...
In 2003 and 2006, the second floor of the hotel was completely renovated, and the Privilege rooms opened.
In 2011, a new boutique was opened: Akoka.
In 2015, the original building is somewhat shaken up: Arraya has a lift! The garden was completely redesigned to create terraces that invite you to relax on sunny days. The new fittings give rise to the latest rooms: Prestige...
In 2016: Obtaining the fourth star!
